A Fort Worth security guard called police after recognizing a Blue Alert fugitive

Seth Altman was arrested at Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth on Friday evening.

Altman, 33, was on the run for three weeks after allegedly shooting a police officer in Memphis, Texas, southeast of Amarillo.

AND A Blue Alert was sent to phones across the state in the early morning hours of October 4.

Much of Texas woke up to a Blue Alert on Friday morning, leaving many people wondering what is a Blue Alert?

A security guard at Union Gospel Mission recognized Altman the moment he checked in and called the police.

“It allowed him to say, ‘OK, this gentleman may be wanted for a crime in another city,'” said Officer Tracy Carter of the Fort Worth Police Department.

Officers were able to arrest Altman without incident.

“Due to the crime, he contacted the officers and said, ‘Hey, for our safety and yours, we’re going to put you in handcuffs,’ and he said OK. They could have taken him to the police car,” Carter said. .

According to Texas DPS, Altman shot and killed the police chief in Memphis, Texas, on October 3.

The commander was issuing an arrest warrant for Altman, who was wanted for burglary. He allegedly shot the police chief multiple times and fled.

The police chief was taken to hospital and released a few days later.

“We are all family. Whether they’re with FWPD or our citywide or statewide departments, it helps us, too. If we know we can do something to help close a case and bring to justice the person who committed a crime, we are committed to doing it,” Carter said.

Altman went into hiding for three weeks.

At the time, the state and FBI offered a $15,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.

He was also listed as one of the state’s 10 most wanted fugitives.

“I thank the security guard who worked that day, the officers who responded, and everyone who was involved in this arrest,” Carter said.

Altman is currently in the Tarrant County Jail waiting to be taken back to Hall County to face attempted capital murder charges.

His bail is currently set at $1 million.
