Elon Musk worked “illegally” in the US at the beginning of his career: report

Washington:

Elon Musk, a staunch critic of illegal immigrants and a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, who for years has portrayed migrants as invaders and criminals, worked “illegally” in the United States at the beginning of his career, reported Washington Post.

According to the report, Musk, a native of South Africa, dropped out of Stanford University in 1995 to work on his debut company Zip2 for four years before it was sold for about $300 million. During this time, he was working without the appropriate permit.

The report shows that two of Musk’s former colleagues also stated that Musk received permission to work in the US around 1997.

Muskas an international student in the US, he couldn’t drop out of school to build a company within the rules.

While overstaying a student visa is common in most cases, it remains illegal, the Post reports.

Still, Musk has always maintained that the time it took him to transition from student to entrepreneur was a “legal gray area.”

The report also cited a 2020 podcast in which Musk said he was legally in the U.S. but was supposed to be working as a student. “I was allowed to do any support work,” he said.

Several of the Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s recent posts on social media platforms have targeted immigration and voter fraud, accusing White House candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris of “importing voters” through illegal immigrants. Last week, he also compared the U.S.-Mexico border – where several Mexican immigrants enter America – to a “zombie apocalypse.”
