RG Kar Case: Doctors Plan to March to CBI Office in Kolkata Demand Justice for Victim RG Kar – West Bengal News

Within five days of the withdrawal of the death fast, agitating junior doctors in West Bengal held a massive convention on Saturday and decided to hold a rally in front of the CBI office on October 30, demanding justice for the victim RG Kar.

After the massive convention held at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, doctors from various government medical facilities and representatives of civil society and personalities from the Bengali entertainment industry, who were present there, took out a rally with candles and torches.

“It has been over two and a half months since our beloved sister was tortured and murdered and we still do not know who the real culprit is. Therefore, at today’s mass convention, we have decided to hold a rally in front of the CBI at its office in CGO Complex on October 30,” said Aniket Mahato, one of the agitating doctors.

The West Bengal Young Doctors Forum (WBJDF) on Saturday held a massive convention to strategize the next move to seek justice for victim RG Kar and ensure that the state government meets her demands.

Thirty-two forum representatives, civil society representatives and celebrities spoke at the convention, which began on Saturday afternoon and lasted for more than six hours.

The participants also discussed the threat culture allegedly prevailing in various government hospitals and steps to be taken to put pressure on the state government to meet their demands.

“We called this mass convention to seek justice for our sister who was raped and murdered on August 9 at RG Kar Hospital,” Mahato said.

“The protest started by a few doctors has now become massive. We wanted to know what happened in the hospital seminar room (where the body was found). We had no idea that this movement would last so long and we didn’t expect it would gain the support of so many people,” Debasish Halder, another agitating doctor, said during the program.

On October 21, the agitating junior doctors called off the fast unto death that had started on October 5, after meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who assured them that she would take note of their demands.

On Saturday, junior doctors also alleged that there were attempts to conceal the truth about the causes of the rape and murder of a doctor on duty at the RG Kar hospital and that there were attempts to protect the perpetrators of the incident.

“We wanted to find out what the truth was and that’s why we insisted on a magisterial investigation. Attempts were made to conceal the truth. We not only want justice but also want to cleanse the system,” Kinjal Nanda, another agitating doctor, said.

The ‘work suspension’ initiated by junior doctors on August 9 after the body of a female doctor was recovered at RG Kar Hospital lasted for 42 days before the West Bengal government assured them that it would consider their demands.

Meanwhile, another group of doctors, who received suspension orders from the Calcutta High Court in connection with suspension issued by an internal committee allegedly for promoting a “threat culture” in medical colleges and hospitals, approached the West Bengal Young Doctors Association on Saturday.
