Family and friends are keeping a vigil following the death of a 16-year-old in a moped accident

Alan Rodgers, 16, an Allen Park High School student, was killed Thursday afternoon when his moped collided with a car in the area of Ecorse and Telegraph in Taylor. On Saturday evening, his friends and family gathered near the crash site to remember their loved one.

His grandmother, Elizabeth Sevilla, was among those who gathered for a candlelight vigil in Rodgers’ honor.

She remembered him as a bright straight-A student who played three sports, including football.

The crowd that honored him was large, a testament to the characters he encountered in his short life.
