AutoZone employee who was struck and was seriously injured after a brutal hit-and-run accident in Port Richmond he died as a result of his injuries– the police said.

Loved ones described Kevin Taylor as a gentle giant and a husband and family man raising three children in the Northeast.

“No one deserves this, but he certainly didn’t deserve it. He didn’t put any negative energy into the world,” said Shante Thompson, Taylor’s younger sister.

Thompson claims that last Sunday, her older brother went to work early to get there on time to watch his beloved Philadelphia Eagles game, but that never happened.

“Jalen and Barkley did what they had to do on Sunday, and he’s out there fighting for his life,” Thompson said.

Police say a longtime AutoZone employee supplied parts four minors in a black Dodge Ram ran a red light at Richmond and Venango Streets in Port Richmond and struck Taylor’s pickup truck at high speed. The 40-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries and died four days later.

“It’s the scariest thing we’ve ever been through, the scariest thing,” Thompson said.

At least five other cars were hit in the collision. Home surveillance footage then shows the three teenagers running away after jumping into an SUV behind them.

“I know there was a lot of tension and fear and everything, but the right thing to do is turn yourself in, it’s the right thing,” said Dennis Thompson, Taylor’s brother.

Taylor’s family is now supporting each other in planning his funeral. Taylor was an organ donor, and his sister says she takes comfort in knowing that part of his personality will live on in someone else.

“It’s very important because we will be able to know that our brother was part of something bigger. He was part of something bigger,” Thompson said.

Community members are collecting donations for Taylor’s family to help with funeral costs.

Police say no arrests have been made and they are working to determine whether the truck the teens were traveling in was stolen.
