The former NBA star is hyping up JJ Redick and showing support for the Lakers head coach

The Los Angeles Lakers’ 2024-2025 campaign is well underway. They’re off to a great start so far, and much of that is thanks to their new head coach, JJ Redick.

This is Redick’s first time as head coach, and so far he’s fit into the team like a glove. He looks like a head coach and does a good job.

Redick is thus far proving the doubters wrong who thought he wouldn’t do a good job, including former NBA All-Star Baron Davis. On Saturday, Davis said via Twitter/X that he met Redick at a car wash and saw him watching a movie on his laptop.

Davis also said he believes the Lakers are in great hands under Redick.

The record and style of play tell us just that. The Lakers are 2-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season and their offense looks fluid. Redick has given this team a new lease of life, and he’s doing it with his offensive strategies, improving their performance in areas where they excel.

No possessions are wasted by the Lakers, who focus on attacking the court and facilitating ball movement. This is consistent with their historical strengths under superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

This duo doesn’t have much time together, so they’ll have to make the most of the years they have left. Fortunately, James and Davis are still in great shape, so as long as they are healthy, Los Angeles will be in contention. Redick is a student of the game, and although he is a first-time head coach, he is no stranger to the game and what it takes to win.

Baron Davis, like others, is changing his view of Redick. For many, Redick’s hiring seemed like amateur hour. Many wondered why the Lakers would hire a rookie head coach to lead AD and James, likely in the post-James era.

The Lakers had many options, but instead decided to take a risk and hire a first-time head coach, believing it would be good for them in the long run.

If the first two games of the season tell us anything, Los Angeles will be in an excellent position under Redick. Los Angeles and Redick still have a long way to go, but the Lakers liked what they saw from Redick; he was their guy from day one.

More Lakers: Anthony Davis finally looks like the Lakers’ best player, and that’s intentional
