A 29-year-old man was fatally shot over an “unpaid drug debt” in Cebu City

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 6:40 p.m., along F. Jaca Street, Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City.

The victim was identified as Jakyl Rosaceña, a resident of Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

According to personnel from the Inayawan Police Station, led by Chief Major Jiceree Basitao, they immediately responded after receiving the call regarding the shooting.

The police who arrived at the scene found the victim lying face down, lifeless, with gunshot wounds to his body.

Witnesses say the victim was walking when a man wearing a black jacket, denim pants and a black mask followed him and shot him with a .45 caliber handgun.

“The basis of the investigation is naabot sya diri kay naa siyay ka drug transactions, unya didto allegedly dealing tawhana nagpaduwa (drugs), daku na kunog batal (utang) unya wala maka mission,” Basitao said.

(According to our investigation, he was there to deal drugs; the victim was reported to be dealing in illegal substances and owed a significant amount of money for failing to turn over (drug proceeds)).

The Inayawan Police Station has already identified the suspect, but has refused to reveal who he is pending the ongoing investigation.

This was not the first attempt on the victim’s life. He was earlier shot dead in Barangay Mambaling and his family advised him to leave the area for his own safety. (AYB)
