When the court decided on January 25 not to allow live coverage of the first trial of Democratic Party representative Lee Jae-myung, a perjury teacher, the people’s government said it respected the verdict but regretted it.

In a comment, senior spokesman Han Ji-ah said: “It is true that Lee’s court verdict will have a significant impact on our society and that justice is being delayed due to continued delays in trials.”

He then argued that there was also a large public opinion in favor of open disclosure of the course of hearings in socially important matters after the first trial regarding the violation of the Electoral Act.

He also demanded that the trial be strictly considered in terms of society’s right to know and future public interest.
