Hyderabad:

At least 30 students of a government school in Telangana’s Narayanpet district have fallen ill after consuming a midday meal allegedly containing worms, officials said.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ordered a thorough inquiry into the incident that took place at Maganoor Zilla Parishad Government Higher Secondary School and sought a detailed report. District officials said most students were in stable condition.

According to reports, students complained of abdominal pain and vomiting after eating the second meal served at the school. School staff and teachers took them to a local hospital for treatment.

Parents of several students alleged that the food served contained worms.

The district medical and sanitary inspector said that apart from the four children, their condition was stable.

Prime Minister Reddy inquired about the health of the students who fell ill and instructed the authorities to provide better treatment.

Mr. Reddy also ordered an inquiry and directed the Narayanpet District Collector to take stringent action, including immediate suspension of those found guilty of negligence in their duties. He also warned against the repetition of such incidents and alerted all district customs officers.

Reddy said the state government would not compromise in providing nutritious food to students.
