Cheating husband sues wife for house after mother-in-law dies while watching them fight | Trends

In a bizarre divorce case, a man in China sued his wife over her mother’s house after the older woman died watching them argue when he was caught cheating. The man managed to recover half of the estate of his deceased mother-in-law, who suffered a heart attack earlier this year.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, she died of a stroke when she tried to break up a couple arguing in the street after he was seen walking arm-in-arm with another woman. The couple had been married for 20 years, and the woman’s mother became ill after the death of her father several years ago.

The husband was caught cheating

To improve her mood, her daughter took her for a walk, where she unexpectedly met her husband who was shopping with another woman. Furious with him, she clashed with her husband in the street and an argument broke out.

When the mother-in-law tried to mediate, she suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.

After her mother’s funeral, the daughter tried to divorce her husband, but she experienced another shock.

The man asked for a house after a divorce

He agreed to a divorce, but asked her to divide the two houses she had inherited from her mother. She rejected his demand, which prompted both of them to take the case to court.

Unfortunately for her, she lost the case because the Chinese Civil Code states that property inherited by a spouse during marriage is considered community property. The court ruled that the man had equal rights to the houses his wife inherited from her parents.

Since the mother-in-law did not explain that only the daughter was to inherit the property, it now needs to be divided equally.

The story shocked internet users, with many of them outraged by the turn of events. “I am terrified and speechless! His mother died because of him, and he still divides her estate,” wrote one of them.

Another noted: “This case will likely reduce marriage rates even further, although the judgment itself is not vicious.”
