Trump claims that he will only “prevent World War III,” but his record shows quite the opposite

There has been almost no focus on foreign policy this election season. However, Donald Trump has convinced his supporters that only he can keep America safe.

“I will prevent World War III,” he said over and over, comparing his achievements as president to those of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

But it’s exactly the opposite. Trump’s foreign policy presidency will significantly increase the likelihood of global conflict over the next four years. It will make America less safe at home and abroad.

The GOP candidate bases his entire foreign policy on his alleged ability to bend his dictator buddies to his will through personality, tariffs or threats. It doesn’t matter that he is it completely failed to do so during his term, setting the stage for today’s wars.

Failed embrace

Trump boasted about his “love letters” and summits with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, but the dictator has refused to halt his nuclear program and continues to expand his nuclear arsenal and test intercontinental missiles.

Trump failed to convince Iran’s supreme leader to agree to dialogue, so Trump did so instead USA canceled its participation in the Iran nuclear deal negotiated by President Barack Obama. This agreement, known as the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), had flaws. However, if Trump had stayed in the deal, Oran would have had several bombs’ worth of enriched uranium in a year, not in two to three weeks.

Even the much-vaunted Abraham Accords, which led to the recognition of Israel by two Gulf states, laid the groundwork for today’s explosive violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

The agreement was brokered by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who relied heavily on Benjamin Netanyahu even though the Israeli leader facilitated the transfer of millions of Arab dollars to the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza because he believed he could buy them back. If Kushner had done a minimum of homework, he would have realized that he could not afford to ignore the issue of Palestinian political rights,

Instead, Kushner offered only hypothetical economic benefits to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, even though many previous attempts at economic development had been blocked by the Israeli occupation. This effort avoid dealing with the political future of the Palestinians involved in the current war in Gaza. (Kushner though he came away with $2 billion for his fledgling investment company from a Saudi development fund run by Trump crony and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. When it comes to conflicts of interest, the Trump family has no shame.)

And let’s not forget, it’s Trump signed the surrender agreement with the Taliban, making the fall of Kabul inevitable (though this does not excuse the Biden administration’s failed withdrawal). It is also Trump who abandoned the Paris Climate Agreement and, despite the massive evidence surrounding him, continues to insist that climate science is false.

The last and most important thing is Trump’s shocking affair with Vladimir Putin, who ignored the fact that the Russian leader did it Already invaded Ukraine in 2014. No doubt Putin did not make further invasions during Trump’s term because he expected his American buddy to cut off aid to Ukraine and hand it to the Kremlin if he was re-elected in 2020. When that option failed, Putin he waited until the end of the pandemic to launch the invasion, which he believed would be over in a week.

Trump’s claim that there was no war during his presidency ignores the utter failure of his foreign policy and its consequences for the country. However, he wants to try the same policy again.

A madman discredited

A week ago – the editor of the Wall Street Journal asked Trump. how to convince China’s Xi Jinping to withdraw from the blockade of Taiwan. “Oh, very easy,” the former president said. “I had a very strong bond with him. He stayed with me at Mar-a-Lago, so we got to know each other very well.

Trump continued: “I would say: If you go to Taiwan, I will tax you” — that is, impose tariffs — “of 150% to 200%.” Trump also told the daily that he may completely shut down trade with China.

Economists across the political spectrum warned that such tariff policies would boomerang against the United States, raising domestic prices, reducing American exports and costing American jobs. Yet Trump continues to tout it as his main weapon, alongside force of personality, against countries that reject his demands.

Moreover, Chinese experts doubt whether tariff threats will move Beijing on the sensitive issue of Taiwan, which requires careful diplomacy. The Chinese know that even the dubious economic “experts” that Trump might appoint to his team would find such threats absurd.

When – asked “Dziennik”. if he used military force against the Taiwan blockade, Trump responded: “I wouldn’t have to do that because he (Xi) respects me and knows I’m f**ked up.” That may be true, but it currently hurts Trump more than it helps.

Trump’s initial image as a madman whom opponents had to handle carefully lest he explode has long since lost popularity abroad.

Currently, Trump is still considered inconsistent and reckless in his use of rhetoric. But allies and adversaries alike question his stability and integrity of mind, and the dictators he admires have long since gained his numbers. They know they can manipulate him with flattery. And they know he wants to bring American troops home, not send them abroad or keep them abroad to protect allies. Or even protect the United States.

Autocratic alliance

Russia, China, North Korea and Iran – the first three led by Trump’s alleged cronies – are now lumped together in an autocratic alliance of convenience. Its common goal is to weaken and undermine the United States and its democratic allies.

Scriptures Xi and Putin have exposed their contempt for the West, especially the United States. Xi wants China to become the world’s leading power and is trying to build global alliances with countries hostile to the United States, while Putin wants to rebuild the historic Russian Empire. Any illusions Trump has that Russia can be lured away from China are illusions.

Both Putin and Xi believe that the West is in a phase of rapid decline and want to accelerate its internal divisions. They also see that Trump has no idea about the global challenges America currently faces.

Nothing reveals these challenges as glaring as Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Beijing, North Korea and Iran now allied with Putinan attempt to crush Ukraine. In exchange for weapons, Russia is currently helping Iran and North Korea with nuclear weapons technology, and Pyongyang is sending troops to fight in Ukraine. Russia is also helping the Houthis (Iran’s proxies in Yemen) to target Western shipping in the Arabian Gulf.

Yet Trump continues to praise his buddy Putin, who clearly makes him look like a fool. Former president and his billionaire ally Elon Musk they held secret conversations with the Russian leader from 2022.

If the alliance of autocrats succeeds, it will destroy the post-war rules of global warfare enshrined in the United Nations Charter: no UN member may invade another UN member with the aim of annexing its territory or destroying its sovereignty. With some exceptions in developing countries, these rules have largely remained in place to the present.

Moreover, at a time when the ways of war are radically changing – in the technological era of cyberwar, massive information wars, anti-satellite and drone wars, and the widespread emergence of artificial intelligence – all rules no longer apply when it comes to undermining the adversary.

Moscow and Beijing are hugely involved in this spreading election disinformation in Europe, the US and elsewhere, while the Kremlin carries out assassinations and sabotage in Western Europe. Both are trying to take control of international waterways, including the Arctic.

Shooting allies

In this new era of global conflict, the most important tool for the West and its Asian allies is to tighten old alliances like NATO and create new ones, as Biden has done with Japan, South Korea, Australia and Southeast Asia. This multiplies opposition to the efforts of autocrats.

However, at a time when West-Asian alliances are crucial, Trump wants to undermine them. Threatens to withdraw from NATO. He talks about removing American troops from Korea. It also fuels a violent division in the United States that plays right into the hands of our adversaries.

Like the character from Saturday Night Live sketch, Trump not only refuses to acknowledge Putin’s propaganda attacks on the US elections, but also now accuses Great Britain – our closest Western ally – election interference. All because the British Labor Party currently in power, which is anathema to Trump, sent some of its employees to observe preparations for the vote in the US.

So there you have it: a GOP candidate who prefers autocrats he envies to our allies. A candidate who does not realize that he has become a tool of America’s opponents. A candidate who has no foreign policy beyond the false belief that only he can fix this and impose tariffs if his opponents don’t budge.

No wonder so many former Trump national security officialshe feared he would blindly accelerate America’s descent into violence and war, with no strategy in mind.

To quote just three of the many top officials who have left or been fired as if they were appearing on a former president’s TV show: Student: :

Trump’s former chief of staff, retired Gen. John Kelly, rightly claims that Trump prefers a “dictatorial approach” and fits the definition of a “fascist.”

His second defense secretary, Mark Esper, says: “I believe he is unfit for office. “His actions are only about him, not the country.”

His third national security adviser, John Bolton, says foreign leaders “think he’s a laughing fool.”

The list of damning assessments from dozens of Trump’s former top security officials points in one direction: Trump is a narcissistic would-be dictator whose stark ignorance of global realities embroils the country in violence at home and abroad. Despite what he boasts, he will seriously threaten the security of this country.

Voter, beware.
