Nickolos Barker was hospitalized after a car crash on State Route 101 in Coos County

Volunteer Fire Department says 40-year-old Nickolos Barker was driving northbound on Highway 101 in a GMC Sierra when he crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Ford F-250 towing a trailer.

Coos County, OR – Nickolos Hastings Barker, 40, of Bandon, has been identified by Oregon State Police as the victim hospitalized after a head-on collision that killed Michael Guarino, 49, of Bandon on Highway 101 in Coos County on Tuesday morning.

The Volunteer Fire Department reported that the disaster occurred on November 19 around 11:57 at the State station Route 101 near milepost 255.

According to the preliminary investigation, a northbound GMC Sierra driven by Barker crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a southbound Ford F-250 driven by Guarino.

Guarino was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Barker was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital.

While investigations were underway at the scene, traffic on the highway was disrupted for approximately four hours.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The accident occurred on Highway 101 near Milepost 255 on November 19 just before noon.

OSP said a 40-year-old Bandon man was driving northbound on GMC Sierra Highway 101 when he veered across the center line and collided with an oncoming Ford F-250 towing a trailer.

Guarino, who was driving the Ford, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The causes of the incident are being investigated.
