Mumbai man kills mother and tries to commit suicide due to financial stress – Mumbai News

A 50-year-old man in Mumbai allegedly killed his elderly mother and then also tried to take his own life due to his poor financial situation.

According to police, Balasubramaniam Kripaswamy visited his 72-year-old mother on October 26 and killed her by suffocating her with a pillow.

Kripaswamy also tried to take his own life by cutting his wrist, but was saved by his mother’s neighbors.

After being informed about the incident, the police reached the spot and shifted Kripaswamy to Wockhardt Hospital for treatment in a critical condition.

A farewell letter was also recovered from him, in which the reason for the radical step was high debt and poor financial situation.

“I don’t have a job and I’m completely in debt. I cannot repay the loan EMI, so I am ending the life of my mother and myself,” the suicide note reportedly read.

Police tried to talk to Kripaswamy’s wife and daughter, but they were unable to talk after the incident.

The police registered a case against Kripaswamy under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation was initiated.

Earlier, in a similar case, a man from Delhi’s Dwarka area allegedly killed his mother and then also tried to take his own life due to extreme financial difficulties.

The police registered a case, arrested the accused and initiated an investigation.
