70-year-old man killed after ‘hit and run’ in Hamilton as police chased Mercedes driver

A man has died after being hit by a car that failed to stop in Hamilton.

Police launched a pursuit of the driver of a car after a crash on Quarry Street on Sunday at around 12.40pm.

A 70-year-old pedestrian became stuck under a small black car, believed to be a Mercedes A-Class, before the driver fled.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and pronounced the 70-year-old man dead.

Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased man at this time.

“Extensive investigations are ongoing to locate the car and its passengers as quickly as possible.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the Quarry Street area on Sunday morning and witnessed the accident or has any information about the car involved to contact us.

“Anyone with dashcam or personal footage is asked to review it and contact us if it contains anything relevant to our investigation.

“If you have any information that may help, please contact us 101 quoting reference number 0171 of October 27.”
