Real Madrid AND La Liga announced they would take action after Barcelona winger Laminy Yamal he suffered allegedly racist violence during Saturday’s El Clasico.

The 17-year-old played the entire match, scoring Barcelona’s third goal during a 4-0 victory, becoming the youngest scorer in El Clasico history.

Videos on social media show the Spain international was subjected to racist abuse by Real Madrid fans in the Santiago Bernabeu stands during the build-up to the corner kick and after scoring.

A statement from Real read: “Real Madrid strongly condemns any behavior involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport and deeply regrets the insults that were uttered by several fans in a corner of the stadium last night.

“Real Madrid has launched an investigation to locate and identify the perpetrators of these deplorable and despicable insults so that appropriate disciplinary and judicial action can be taken.”

La Liga said: “La Liga condemns and will condemn the racist insults that took place during El Clasico. Following the events that took place during the Real Madrid CF – FC Barcelona match, during which unacceptable racist behavior was observed, La Liga immediately referred the case to the Hate Division of the Information Brigade of the National Police and issued a notification to the National Police.

“We will inform the Coordinating Prosecutor of the Hate and Racist Crimes Unit of the Office of the Attorney General’s Hate Crimes and Discrimination Unit.

“La Liga strongly condemns the events that took place at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and remains committed to eradicating all forms of racist behavior and hatred both inside and outside the stadium. This scourge has no place in sports.”

In the recording, a fan can be heard shouting “Go sell tissues at the traffic lights” while shouts calling him a “f***ing moor” (a racist term for a member of the North African Muslim community, of mixed Arab and Amazigh descent) can be heard. Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, is from Morocco.

Barcelona also condemned the incident when approached for comment Athlete and confirmed that they intend to lodge a formal complaint with La Liga.
