Very good choice – Park Record

Very good choice – Park Record

Education spending in Utah has nearly doubled over the past 15 years, and student achievement has remained essentially unchanged. As taxpayers, it is not unreasonable to expect a return on our investment. In this case, we should expect that increased education spending will translate into improved achievement for our student population. This is not the case.

While experience is always valued, sometimes experience alone is not enough to move the needle. To make this happen, new ideas, new perspectives and new motivations are needed.

“The Utah State Board of Education is the constitutionally established, elected, partisan body that exercises overall control and oversight of Utah’s public education system, including establishing state core educational standards, state teacher licensing policies, and state high school graduation standards. ”

Under the leadership of this board, Utah education doing the same thing over and over again and failing to see better results in student achievement is a call for new blood and new thinking.

Discussions and even debates about issues affecting education, led by people with different opinions, are healthy and provide perspective and opportunity for consideration. However, positions on individual issues should not alone define a candidate.

We need candidates who are motivated to find the best solutions and who are willing to accept input from all parties and all constituencies and then strive to achieve the best results for all. This is where transparency, integrity and the ability to truly represent those you serve come into play.

I have been following and knowing Diane Livingston for many years. Her moral values and ethics are beyond reproach. She is completely transparent in her views and actions, but reasonable and rational in her use of input and representations of what she hears.

If we are looking for a representative to the state school board who thinks clearly, is not burdened by past relationships or special interests, and who will represent Park City parents and students with grace and integrity, then Diane Livingston is a very good choice.
