‘Kamala-zoo’: 72 photos from Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris’ rally in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI –– Former First Lady Michelle Obama joined current Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Saturday, October 26, at the Wings Event Center for a campaign event at the Wings Event Center.

This was Harris’ second stop in Kalamazoo this year –– her first visit was to support President Joe Biden at the Air Zoo Aerospace and Science Museum on July 17four days before Biden withdrew and Harris endorsed.

It was Obama’s first campaign trip since the Democratic National Convention.

Fans were eager to see and hear from the pair as they braved the crisp October air and arrived in line hours before Harris landed on the tarmac in Battle Creek.

They donned “Kamala-zoo” T-shirts, camouflage Harris-Walz hats and clutched copies of Obama’s book to their chests.

First-time voter Halle Woodard ushered the former First Lady onto the stage just before 5 p.m., to more than a minute of eager cheering from thousands of spectators before she began her speech.

Obama delivered an impassioned speech focusing on contrasting Donald Trump and Harris and their positions on reproductive rights.

She appealed to those present to come out early and vote.

“He will usher in a new generation of American leaders and send the ugliness of Donald Trump and his policies back where they belong – in the past,” Obama said.

Obama introduced Harris with Beyonce’s “Freedom” playing over the speakers.

Thousands of wristbands glittered throughout the Wings Event Center.

Harris delivered a consistent speech throughout her campaign.

After Harris’ final remarks, Obama returned to the stage for another hug, and the pair greeted supporters along the buffer for 20 minutes.

Harris made several stops outside the Wings Event Center, including an earlier visit to a health clinic in Portage and ending with a post-rally beer with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at Trak Houz Bar & Grill before heading ashore for Philadelphia.

Harris and Obama also stopped by the packed house, where they greeted more than 1,000 fans who didn’t show up at the arena.
