A car plows into a crowd outside a cathedral in Mexico City, injuring 16 people

MEXICO CITY — Local authorities said a car plowed into a crowd outside a cathedral in Mexico City on Saturday evening, injuring at least 16 people.

The government of Guadalajara said in a statement to X that the person allegedly stole a pickup truck near a local market and drove into the plaza in front of Guadalajara’s cathedral in an attempt to escape.

Government Secretary General Manuel Romo told local reporters that the injured were only 14 years old. He said the suspect was in custody.

“Fortunately, all the patients are stable and we have contacted their families,” said Véronica Delgadillo, mayor of Guadalajara, at a local hospital where two patients spent the night for observation.
