Ogun StateNigeria – The Ogun State government has taken decisive action following the tragic death of Master Monday Arijo, a second-year student of Obada Grammar School, Idi-emi.

The Ministry of EducationThe Science and Technology Institute has suspended a teacher accused of physically assaulting a student, which reportedly contributed to his untimely death on Friday.

In response to the incident, the teacher was arrested and the school principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, was summoned to give evidence.

An investigation by the Ministry of Education highlights concerns about the use of corporal punishment in schools, which is contrary to state regulations.

Ms Onaolapo was given 24 hours to justify her failure to prevent corporal punishment and explain why disciplinary measures should not be imposed on her.

The Ogun State government also expressed condolences to Arijo’s family in an official letter.

The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, recognized Master Arijo as an exceptional student who will be greatly missed by his peers and the school community.

The student died after 162 frog jumps and 24 cane strokes

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Ariyo, a student of Obada Idi-Emi Secondary School in Ogun State, tragically died after a reported penalty of 162 frog jumps and 24 strokes of the cane.

Ariyo’s punishment resulted from a careless comment about a trash can, which escalated into the teacher asking the principal for disciplinary action.

The Ogun State Police confirmed the matter and initiated an investigation, while a senior officer noted that the initial tension had been eased by police intervention
