2 people dead and 1 injured in Civil Air Patrol plane crash in Colorado

Two people died and one was injured Saturday in Colorado when a Civil Air Patrol plane crashed, Gov. Jared Polis said in a statement.

Polis identified the dead as pilot Susan Wolber and aviation photographer Jay Rhoten. It was determined that the person who was injured was co-pilot Randall Settergren.

Polis said the plane, belonging to the Thompson Valley Composite Squadron, crashed in Larimer County.

The Civil Air Patrol did not immediately respond to requests for information about the crash.

According to Polis, the Colorado Army National Guard airlifted Settergran to a medical facility for treatment. He said he had “serious injuries.” KUSA in Denver, an NBC News affiliate.

Polis described those on board as Civil Air Patrol volunteers “who wanted to help make Colorado a better and safer place for everyone.”

“The state of Colorado is grateful for their commitment to service and it will not be forgotten,” Polis added.

According to a release from Polis and Clellan, the missions conducted by the Air Patrol “include search and rescue of missing hikers and hunters, locating downed aircraft, and transporting emergency personnel or medical supplies.”

The NTSB is investigating the incident in cooperation with other agencies.
