Singaporean arrested for allegedly making a fake bomb threat at Bangkok airport – Singapore News

A Singaporean was arrested on Friday (November 22) for making a false bomb threat at Bangkok’s Don Mueng International Airport.

According to Khaosod English, the man, identified as Ho, made a hoax call about an AirAsia plane taxiing for takeoff on Thursday (November 21) at 2:47 p.m.

Flight FD 3114 was headed to Hat Yai in Songkhla province and was carrying 162 passengers and six crew members, according to The Nation.

Due to the threat, the take-off of flight FD 3114 was immediately suspended and the passengers were evacuated. The aircraft was then brought back to the bay for inspection.

Authorities canceled the emergency at 7:30 p.m. after confirming that no suspicious items were found on the plane or among the passengers, The Nation reported.

Ho arrested at the airport terminal

At a press conference on November 23, Lt. Gen. Choengron RimPadee, commander of the 2nd Immigration Division and spokesman for the Bureau of Immigration, said Ho was arrested on November 22 at around 7 p.m.

Police tracked his phone and located it in the airport terminal. Ho was also found to have overstayed his visa by 28 days. He later pleaded guilty to making the false threat, attributing his actions to the stress of family problems.

According to Thai media, Ho entered Thailand using an Apec Business Travel Card and had no previous criminal record.

Thai police said they were investigating the matter and would consider further charges if necessary. Ho could also face a lawsuit from the airport, airline and injured passengers for damages caused by the incident.

According to Police Lieutenant General Choengron, following the accusation, Ho will be deported and “permanently blacklisted from entering Thailand.”

For violating the aviation law, Ho faces a prison term of up to 15 years or a fine of up to 600,000 baht ($23,400) or both.
