A 90-year-old man kills his wife in a murder-suicide in a nursing home

According to reports, a distraught 90-year-old man shot his wife and then committed suicide in a Pennsylvania nursing home.

Drama unfolded Thursday at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in East Coventry when a man allegedly entered the room of his 89-year-old wife at the home and fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself. WFMZ-TV News reports.

Police in Pennsylvania responded to shots fired at Manatawny Manor Nursing Home in connection with a murder-suicide.

According to the portal, the man suffered “severe injuries” and died in hospital.

“This is someone who has been here many times before,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe told the station. “I’m sure he said something when he came in, but whether it had anything to do with what happened here today is still too early for us.

“We are treating this incident as an isolated incident,” he said. “This nursing home has done everything it can and continues to provide resources to those in the facility.”

The police did not identify the perpetrator or his wife.

According to police, the 90-year-old gunman had already visited his wife at the Manatawny Manor nursing home.

Relatives of other nursing home residents said the shooting took everyone by surprise.

“He just said he heard some commotion and that they closed the door to his room and when I talked to him, they opened it again,” Pat Erb of Boyerton said of his father. “He was fine.”
