At least six crew members were injured in a massive fire on the oil tanker MV Sadia Enterprise on the Dakatia River in Chandpur following an explosion in the engine room on Sunday afternoon.

The injured were Rubel (35), Golap (50), Jilani (30), Masud (30), Giyas Uddin (29) and Madhu Mia (55).

The fire broke out around 4.15 p.m. near the Padma Oil Company wharf, said Syed Morshed Alam, deputy director of Fire and Civil Defense Services (North), Chandpur.

According to information, around 5:30 p.m. the fire was brought under control by 4 units of the Fire Department and the Coast Guard.

Among the injured, Golap’s condition was serious and he was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

However, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are unknown.
