Chicago shooting: Woman shot on Washington Street in Loop, officials say; police respond to Macy’s on State Street

CHICAGO (WLS) — A woman was injured in a shooting in the Loop on Saturday evening, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Chicago police confirmed that a 19-year-old woman was shot after someone opened fire in downtown Chicago. It all happened after Christmas festivities ended near the Mag Mile.

According to Chicago police, the shooting occurred on the sidewalk in the 0-100 block of West Washington Street. Police could also be seen at the Macy’s store on State Street.

CPD said a 19-year-old woman was shot by an unknown suspect while walking on the sidewalk with a group of people. She was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where her condition was initially listed in critical, CFD officials said. Chicago police later said she was in fair condition.

Another crime scene could be seen at the scene of the shooting on nearby Washington Street. It was not immediately clear why Macy’s was also included in the investigation.

The Macy’s store is located at State Street and Randolph Street downtown, near ABC7 Chicago’s State Street Studios. There was a heavy police presence inside and outside the store.

Another woman who suffered an emergency was taken to hospital in fair condition, CFD said.

No arrests have been made and no further information is immediately available. Area Three detectives continue to investigate.
