The next stage of the Surrey road bridge project has been postponed.

Guildford Borough Council (GBC) said work on the Ash Road Bridge project is now expected to start in December, with the bridge “opening in the new year”.

The next stage will be detours for passenger cars and light vehicles until the bridge opens. As the councilor added, the opening date will be confirmed as soon as possible.

The bridge was called the so-called Chester Bridgeafter the council allowed the public to vote on the name.

The name refers to the Chester Arms pub which was located near the station and named after the Chester family who lived near Poyle Park.

The bridge is intended to replace a railway crossing in Ash, which city officials say is closed “up to 25 minutes per hour.”

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross the tracks at the railway crossing.
