A crowd attacks a policeman when his car hits a car, injuring the driver

Varanasi: Rajatalab Police Station responsible Ajit Kumar Verma was attacked by locals on Saturday after his car hit an auto rickshaw, injuring the driver near Harahua crossing under Badagaon police station.

The ADCP said that following a complaint lodged by the car driver, Devi Shankar Rai (55), a resident of Bhatauli village in Baragaon police station limits, an FIR was lodged against Verma.
Meanwhile, following Verma’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the unidentified perpetrators. Based on the video footage, the police tried to identify the people who attacked Verma so that appropriate action could be taken against them.
During the initial police investigation, it emerged that Verma, dressed in civilian clothes, was commuting to work with his family. Passing the Harahua Crossing, Rai drove in front of his vehicle near a bend. Before Verma could stop the car, it hit him and Rai suffered serious injuries.
When Verma got down from his car, a mob gathered near Rai and attacked him, leading to chaos at the busy intersection. Even though Verma repeatedly stated that he was an officer of the police station, the mob continued to attack him in front of his family members.
Baragaon police reached the spot to rescue Verma. Many people in the crowd attacked Verma even in front of the Badagaon police. After rescuing Verma, the police arranged an ambulance and took Rai to Harahua Central Health Center from where he was referred to the district hospital and later admitted to the BHU trauma center for proper treatment.
