Adoptive parents arrested on suspicion of murder and torture of a 10-year-old boy

Alejandra Marin and Juan Sanchez Moreno were arrested after their foster son fell into a “difficult health condition” and later died on November 21

Authorities said a man and a woman are facing legal problems following the death of their 10-year-old adopted son.

Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, were arrested and charged with murder, torture and child abuse following the boy’s death at a local hospital on Thursday, Nov. 21, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. press release.

The child, whose identity has not been released, was initially found earlier in the day at a Moreno Valley children’s home in “difficult medical condition.”

An initial investigation into the boy’s death “revealed signs of possible neglect and abuse.” Due to this discovery, the Riverside Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit was called in to investigate, the release stated.

“Following a joint investigation by the Central Homicide Unit and the Special Victims Unit, the minor’s adopted parents, Alejandra Marin and Juan Sanchez Moreno, both residents of Moreno Valley, were arrested on charges of murder, torture and child abuse,” authorities said.

According to inmate search records seen by PEOPLE, Marin was held at the Detention Center. Robert Presley with no bail set. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, November 26.

Meanwhile, Moreno’s booking and court details have not been made available. The investigation remains ongoing.

As of Sunday, November 24, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information.
