COPA is investigating after an off-duty officer shot with two assailants in Washington Park

An off-duty Chicago police officer exchanged gunfire with two attackers in Washington Park on the South Side on Sunday morning.

At about 1:50 a.m. at 100 East 57th Street, an officer confronted two gunmen and all three fired, although the officer was not injured and the attackers fled, Chicago police said.

Police did not say who fired first. The officer initially exchanged fire with one person, after which the second gunman also opened fire on the officer. Both attackers then fled.

According to police, no injuries were reported.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the case.
