Upset by the harassment, the teacher commits suicide

Visakhapatnam: A 22-year-old teacher died by suicide following alleged prolonged harassment by her ex-lover in Bheemili mandal of Visakhapatnam district.

According to local police officials, the victim, identified as Kagitala Rasi, was a vidya volunteer at ZP High School in Majjivalasa village in Bheemili mandal. She decided to take the extreme step on November 16 and died the same evening while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Police arrested 26-year-old Pilli Raju, a resident of the same village, in connection with the incident. According to sub-inspector Bhimila, Raju and Rasi had been in a relationship for about 11 years. According to reports, the situation worsened when Rasi’s parents opposed their marriage. “The accused threatened to take his own life if she did not marry him,” Bhimili SI told Deccan Chronicle.

Raju was arrested on November 22 and is currently in judicial custody. Sources say that Raju had been stalking and allegedly harassing her for several years on the pretext of love. The family, which initially kept the matter a secret, later lodged a formal complaint at the Bheemili police station.
