NHL Buzz: Samberg placed on injured reserve by Jets

Max Domi will miss his second straight game with a lower-body injury during the Maple Leafs’ game against Utah Hockey Club on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, TSN4, Utah16, NHLN).

“He’s still rehabbing,” coach Craig Berube said. “He’s not ready to get on the ice yet.”

The striker, who has six assists in 19 games this season but has not scored a point in his last 13 games, tried to ride out the injury before being placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, retroactive to November 16.

Toronto will also be without forward Matthew Knies, who suffered an upper-body injury in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Forward Alexander Nylander is expected to make his season debut after signing a one-year contract on Friday. He had 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 14 games with Toronto in the American Hockey League while under contract with the AHL. During Saturday’s training, he played on the right wing in a line with left winger Nikita Grebenkin and center Fraser Minten.

Nylander had 15 points (11 goals and four assists) in 23 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets last season after being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 22.

“It was amazing yesterday, it felt amazing,” Nylander said. “I’m just really happy and excited to be here and be ready for tomorrow’s game… I know what I can do at the NHL level. I had a really good finish last year with the Columbus Blue Jackets and I just need to build on that, get better every day. It all starts with working hard every shift and the rest comes when I do it.” — Dave McCarthy
