Priyanka Sewhani, identified as an Uber passenger, died after falling from her car

Police on Sunday identified a 32-year-old Long Island woman as the Uber passenger who died after she apparently jumped from a moving car and was struck by another vehicle on a Long Island highway.

Police said Priyanka Sewhani, of Oyster Bay, died at the scene early Saturday morning after “getting out” of an eastbound 2019 Volkswagen Passat while sitting in the back seat.

Authorities said that when Sewhani left her car near the Kissena Boulevard exit near Flushing, she was “unknowingly” struck by another vehicle traveling in the left lane.

Police say the Uber driver stayed at the scene, but the driver of the car that hit her did not.

It is unclear why Sewhani reportedly jumped from the vehicle.

Following the incident, all four eastbound lanes were temporarily closed while the NYPD Highway Patrol conducted an investigation.

An email to Uber was not immediately returned Sunday evening.
