A farmer couple’s suicide bid thwarted

Suryapet: Locals intervened to prevent a suicide attempt by a farmer couple at the IKP paddy procurement center near Annaram in Thungathurthy mandal. A married couple, Gogulothu Keema Naik and his wife Punnamma, residents of Annaram village, were concerned about problems related to the sale of their paddy crops.

Keema Naik informed that he took the rice harvested from his two acres of land to a rice mill in Tirumalgiri. However, the mill owner refused to buy the crop, citing low quality. After this failure, he brought rice to the IKP purchasing center on Sunday.

At the procurement center, the couple alleged that millers did not follow government guidelines and purchased paddy below the minimum support price (MSP). Frustrated with the whole situation, they decided to take a radical step. Fortunately, the locals present at the scene noticed their anxiety and intervened, preventing the suicide attempt.
