Former professional football player, fake Uber driver and school sports coach sentenced to prison

These are criminals from our region who have been kept locked up for the last seven days

A former professional footballer, a mum who stabbed another woman 20 times with a screwdriver, and a fake Uber driver who kidnapped and committed sexual assault were among the criminals jailed in Merseyside last week. A sports coach who abused and attacked students at the school where he worked was also locked up.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court I heard a man fled after his DNA was found on a gun days after it was used in a shooting. Here are the faces of 12 defendants from our region who have been in custody over the last seven days:

Elliot Millar

A sports coach who drew a penis on a student’s face at the school where he worked has been jailed. While working at Life, Elliot Millar hit and handcuffed students Wirral Sports School in New Brighton.

He is said to have started working at the facility just a day after an “informal” interview with the principal, without receiving any training. The judge called his actions “hideously inappropriate” and “simply abusive.”

Millar pleaded guilty to four counts of assault and making threats. Appearing in court wearing a black suit, white shirt and gray tie, he was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison while his parents sat in tears in the public gallery.

Thomas Morrison

A man panicked and fled after his DNA was found on a firearm used in a shooting days before it was discovered hidden in the woods. Thomas Morrison has been scientifically linked to a Russian-made gun that fired a hail of bullets into a property on a residential street.

But as he prepared to go before a jury over his involvement with deadly weapons, the former laborer and scaffolder tiptoed and failed to appear in court for several months. A judge told him today that by trying to avoid justice he had only “delayed the inevitable”.

Morrison was ultimately convicted of possessing a prohibited weapon in his absence before he was arrested last month. He was sentenced to five years and one month in prison.

A mum-of-seven ‘snapped’ and stabbed another woman 20 times with a screwdriver. Elizabeth Lee launched a “crazy revenge attack” on her “helpless” victim, who was already lying injured on the ground after being attacked by an unknown man.

Despite the brutal attack on a homeless shelter, the gunman says she is “not sorry at all.” But she cried as she was locked up over the shocking event.

Lee pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article in a public place. Appearing via video link from HMP Styal, she wiped away tears throughout the hearing before she was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

Gareth Shaw

A man has been jailed and issued a criminal conviction order after assaulting a sales assistant at a Matalan store and stealing it Tesco and Holland and Barrett. Gareth Shaw pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and common assault and was locked up for 17 weeks.

The gunman ordered the man to give him drugs and cash, then stabbed him in his own apartment. Dawit Alemseged stabbed his victim after she refused to give in to his demands, leaving him unable to sleep and “reluctant” to leave the house.

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding on the day he was due to appear in court. He was sentenced to one year in prison and given a restraining order and a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting the complainant.

Jamie Menagh

A former professional footballer has been jailed for his role in a £250m conspiracy during which Class A drugs were smuggled into the country hidden in a trailer. Jamie Menagh was jailed for seven and a half years for supplying drugs to couriers who then distributed South American cocaine and heroin around the UK.

Jonathon Derby

A man who suffered domestic violence grabbed his ex-girlfriend and bit her several times when she rejected his drunken advances. Jonathon Derby “severely beat” his former partnerleaving her with nasty bruises.

The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to assault resulting in actual bodily harm. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Liam Lewis

Liam Lewis used a fire extinguisher to break into a phone shop during riots in Liverpool city center. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and burglary and was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

Fitwi Tekeste

Teenager thought she was getting into an Uber to take her to McDonald’s but was instead abducted and sexually harassed. Fitwi Tekeste spotted his prey alone Liverpool city center in the early morning hours after spending the evening with friends.

The restaurant employee then convinced her he was her taxi driver and lured her into his car under false pretenses. She then endured a “nightmare” of almost two hours of driving on the M62 and being abused.

Tekeste pleaded guilty to one case of sexual assault and another case of kidnapping was ordered to be entered into his records. Appearing in the dock wearing a gray prison tracksuit and accompanied by a translator, he was sentenced to 45 months in prison.

David Moc

Callous burglar broke into dementia sufferer’s home while she was in hospital and stole the mannequin from her dead son. David Power also targeted the home of a recently bereaved widower while she was on holiday to fund his £100-a-day drug habit.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary, attempted burglary and four counts of breaching a criminal conduct order. Appearing in the dock wearing a blue Emporio Armani sweater, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

A pedophile chef put his head in his hands as he returned to prison. methan Moran was originally imprisoned for sexually abusing a teenage girl however, after being released from prison, he failed to comply with the terms of the sex offenders’ register and the police, after receiving information from his own mother, discovered that he was living at the address with his three children.

The 24-year-old admitted that he had not fulfilled his reporting obligations. He initially put his head in his hands, then nodded when he was told he faced six months in prison.

John Charlton

After his DNA was found on the murder weapon, the man came up with an “amazing” excuse. John Charlton has been linked to the Glock pistol that was used in the fatal shooting and was also fired into the house on another occasion.

But then he came up with a bizarre story that he had been holding the gun thinking it was just a toy gun, having come across it while delivering firewood to the house. As he was locked up, he told the judge “I’m sorry about this.”

Charlton pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition without a certificate. He was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison.
