NBL players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis suspended for fight with spectators

NBL players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis were suspended and fined for their roles in the brawl, which also involved a spectator.

A single-member tribunal upheld penalties imposed by the league for the pair’s conduct during several unsavory minutes of the match between Melbourne United and the Adelaide 36ers that marred the October 17 clash at the John Cain Area Stadium.

The United-Sixers clash exploded in the final quarter when an exchange between Harrell and United’s Rob Loe drew teammates and, ultimately, fans.

Things escalated even further when the Sixers returned to the bench and engaged in a war of words with on-court spectators that quickly turned physical.

Four spectators, including a season ticket holder, were ejected from the facility.

The league has not yet announced a resolution regarding an investigation into spectator behavior.

The hearing was adjourned until Monday because the 36ers hired a lawyer specializing in “racial, offensive or offensive language issues” to defend Harrell and Davis.

Harrell was suspended for three games and fined a total of $3,685 after the tribunal upheld two counts of striking, one count of engaging in a fight and one count of improperly grabbing or handling a spectator.

Davis was suspended for two games after his charge of improperly grabbing or handling a spectator was upheld.

The NBL said the 36ers could appeal the decision to a full-court tribunal.

Adelaide next hosts JackJumpers at home on Saturday.
