Six MBBS candidates caught with forged NRI certificates

Six MBBS candidates under the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota were found to have submitted fake embassy certificates and three of them secured seats in self-financed medical colleges, the state medical admissions selection committee revealed on Friday.

The commission has canceled the MBBS seats allotted to three candidates and announced that these seats will now be included in the seat matrix for the special round of vacancies scheduled for next week.

After verification of documents at the relevant embassies and consulates, the candidature of all six candidates was canceled. Embassies in Canada, Dubai, Riyadh and Jeddah confirmed that the certificates submitted by the candidates were fake. Embassy officials also asked the government for a report on the actions taken.

“We will take legal action against the candidates. Their applications were declared invalid,” said a senior official. The commission added that it was still awaiting responses from several other embassies.
