Yellowstone: What does recused mean and how does it affect Jamie?

In Yellowstone season 5, episode 11, “Three Fifty-Three”, Jamie Dutton is fired from his job, which means everything he has been working for suddenly gets in the way. (Warning: major spoilers next!)

Yet, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 was a combination of cowboys and government antics Jamie Dutton right in the middle of it all. After it turned out that his lover Sarah Atwood was responsible The murder of John DuttonJamie wanders around trying to survive.

However, in episode 11, things turn upside down when Jamie tries to cozy up to the new governor who replaces John Dutton. Adopted Dutton is “retired,” but what exactly does that mean?

Here’s a breakdown of what it all means and how it will affect Jamie Dutton in the future.

What does “retired” mean in Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 11?

If someone is “removed” from a court case, it means they are removed due to a personal conflict of interest – meaning Jamie cannot be involved in any legal matters involving John Dutton or ranch.

IN YellowstoneJamie is a district attorney in Montana. We’ve already seen him advocate on behalf of the ranch with legal capacity and get involved in their affairs, but in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11, things shake up.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11: Jamie and Lynelle are sitting at the desk

The new acting governor asks Jamie to “refrain from censure and any investigation into the death of John Dutton.”

This followed the announcement that John Dutton’s cause of death was in fact “undetermined”, meaning the investigation is still open and not ruled a suicide.

Earlier in the episode, Jamie also convinced the governor to take eminent domain over Dutton Ranch (meaning the government has control over the property). So there’s a murder investigation going on in John’s death, as well as legal proceedings regarding the ranch.

If Jamie is excluded, it means that he cannot be involved in any of the cases as this would constitute a conflict of interest as he is part of The Dutton family and has personal connections to the people involved.

What does this mean for Jamie Dutton

If Jamie is sidelined, it will mean he will be an observer at the inquest into John Dutton’s death and also means he will not be able to make legal decisions about the future of the ranch – two issues he was deeply concerned about.

John Dutton’s death wouldn’t be a problem for Jamie at all… If his girlfriend wasn’t behind all of this. Sarah Atwood, who worked at Market Equities, assigned John the assignment. Jamie soon found out about it and it has been eating him up inside ever since.

It was previously ruled a suicide, but now that the investigation is ongoing, Jamie is in the direct line of fire. Sarah later points out to him that he wasn’t actually involved in organizing the attack, but we all know he could still be connected to her.

As for the future of the ranch, Jamie was long ago left out of the will. There is therefore no direct financial benefit from selling the ranch. But his goal was to finalize airport plans for Market Equities, which would put a multimillion-dollar profit back into Montana’s pocket.

If he wasn’t allowed to participate in the deal between the ranch, the government and Market Equities, it basically means he was forced out of his own agenda.

However, it exists one silver lining. In the latest episode of Yellowstone, Sarah points out that no one but himself and the judge can reject Jamie. So the idea was proposed, but putting it into practice would require an actual ruling from a judge or Jamie.
