Tinubu’s safety reason for purchasing the new presidential jet – Onanuga

The Presidency has explained the reason for ordering a new presidential jet for President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the current jet was ordered to avoid the president’s involvement in a plane crash caused by the malfunction.

Onanuga recalled a conversation with national security adviser Nuhu Ribadu about the faulty plane and condemned the high level of maintenance.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, Onanuga said: “People should try to prioritize the president’s safety. I’m not sure anyone would want our president to crash in midair. We want him to be safe so he can hand over power to whoever wants to take it over.”

The health of the Presidential Air Fleet has been a source of concern recently.

In May, a broken down presidential jet prevented Vice President Kashim Shettima from attending the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit hosted by the Corporate Council for Africa.

In December last year, the Falcon 900B presidential aircraft was put up for sale, and the Nigerian Air Force asked interested parties to submit offers for the purchase of the plane.
