Person of interest identified in possible Los Angeles road rage hit-and-run that killed teenage cyclist

The California Highway Patrol is searching driver who killed a 16-year-old cyclist in a potential road rage case at Exposition Park, they have identified a person of interest.

Police on Saturday stopped two cars believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run outside a Los Angeles home, the CHP announced in a news release.

According to authorities, the series of events began Friday when police responded to a hit-and-run accident in the BMO Stadium parking lot around 4:30 p.m. Police who responded to the scene learned that authorities believed there had been some kind of altercation between a group of about 40 bicyclists and a blue BMW on Figueroa Street, north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The driver of a black Honda followed one of the cyclists into the parking lot at Exposition Park. Authorities said the driver then fatally struck the boy. The teenager’s name has not been released.

According to police, the driver then drove away.

On Saturday, investigators served a search warrant at a Los Angeles home and seized a blue 2021 BMW sedan and a black 2018 Honda Accord. During the investigation, police identified a 28-year-old man as a person of interest, possibly the driver of the Honda that hit the teenager, the CHP said .

According to a press release, “CHP continues to investigate and is asking the driver responsible to turn himself in to authorities.”

“On behalf of the CHP, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones mourning this tragic loss over the holidays,” CHP Chief Chris Margaris said in a statement. “We stand with you in this time of mourning and are actively working to bring the person responsible to justice.”
