Musician Kate Nash has claimed that the OnlyFans page she started to help finance her tour “talks about agency” and “huge problems” in the music industry that are beyond her control.

The Foundations singer, 37, announced she was setting up an account on the platform known for its adult content on Thursday ahead of her performance in Glasgow.

Nash told the PA news agency that more and more musicians were having to finance themselves, partly due to the costs of presenting music live, and said that “everything had gone to f***” in the industry.

She said: “I want to draw attention to agency. I have an agency for this.

“I’m trying to raise money so I can re-invest in myself, re-invest in my creativity, but I don’t feel like cutting corners and doing things that are unsafe, unethical or of lower quality.

“I’m not going to compromise on this. This makes it harder for me not to lose money.”

She added: “I think it’s really important that people don’t say, like, ‘Oh, she has to do this,’ or, ‘It’s so sad, isn’t it?’

“Well, it’s terrible what’s happening in the music industry, it’s absolutely terrible.

“Because what the music industry is saying and what everyone is being allowed to say is that we don’t want diversity and culture and that there is no place for working class people. This is terrible. It’s really sad.

“What I do is brilliant because I use my ass to fund my music career and have an agency.

“People want to see it and I’m happy to sell it. I love my ass. I think it’s great, but also really funny and it’s a punk protest.”

Nash, also known for her role on the hit Netflix series “Glow,” said she has friends who are involved in prostitution and has “really learned a lot from other people in the industry.”

She continued: “It’s just an idea that came to me last week and I thought it might be a pretty cool way to start the tour.

“I’ve been paid to be naked before, I’ve been naked in Glow and it’s really empowering when your body is, I don’t know, when you feel good about yourself and I think you have control over what you’re doing.

“So I think I have agency and I find solutions to huge problems that have arisen in the music industry that I have no control over, and it shines a light on those problems. And listen, everyone is talking about it.

Nash claimed on BBC Radio 4’s Today program that her account allowed her to add an additional crew member to the tour staff.

British singer Lily Allen revealed earlier this year that she joined OnlyFans to sell photos of her feet.

The Smile singer said she has “very strict guidelines” and charges subscribers $10 (£8) a month to view photos of her feet.

Nash, who has been touring England, Scotland and parts of Europe, released her chart-topping debut album Made Of Bricks in 2007, followed by My Best Friend Is You (2010), Girl Talk (2013), Yesterday Was Forever (2018) and 9 Sad Symphonies (2024).

Her best-known song, Foundations, peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart.
