Missing kayaker identified after hikers find body at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) – The body of a hiker washed up on the shores of Lake Superior has been identified as that of a missing kayaker.

Body discovered November 8 along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore near Miners Beach, according to police.

Through DNA analysis, Michigan State Police identified the body as 65-year-old John Kueber.

Kueber was reported missing on September 29 after he was believed to be kayaking on Lake Superior.

After receiving a missing person’s report, MSP Negaunee Post, MSP Aviation, MSP Canines, MSP Marine Services Team, Alger County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and the National Park Service became involved in the search for Kueber.

Despite an extensive search, Kueber has not been found.

According to the police, no crime is suspected.

“This is not the result that each of us was counting on. We offer our condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew Mr. Kueber. We would also like to thank everyone who helped in the search.” said Lt. Ben Eckola.
