MVAA and DNR add crisis line to veterans’ hunting and fishing licenses

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) has partnered with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to add a crisis line to veterans’ hunting and fishing licenses.

The 988 Suicide and crisis Lifeline will be offered in English and Spanish throughout Michigan hunting and fishing licenses sold for active duty residents and 100% disabled military veterans.

“MVAA is always looking for ways to support veteran suicide prevention. Placing the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline contact information on every license will put a vital resource in the pockets of veterans who love Michigan’s outdoors,” said Brian L. Love, director of MVAA, in a press release sent to 6 News.

The 998 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, is a national network of crisis centers staffed with professionals who help people experiencing a mental health condition or suicide crisis. Lifeline allows you to call or text 988 at any time of the day, either on behalf of yourself or a loved one.

“Outdoors provide welcoming spaces where people can relax, recharge and connect with friends and family,” DNR Director Scott Bowen said in a press release sent to 6 News. “However, there are times when people may need professional help and care. “Including 988 hunting and fishing licenses for our military veterans is another way to keep Michiganders safe.”
