SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The son of former San Diego County Republican Party Chairman Tony Krvaric has pleaded not guilty to an assault weapons charge.

Victor Krvaric, 24, who was arrested in September at his father’s Scripps Ranch home, entered an appeal last week to the lone count he met with. The charge was filed without consultation with prosecutors, according to a spokesman for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, who said Krvaric faces up to three years in prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for Dec. 23.

Police and prosecutors have not commented on what led sheriff’s officials to seek the search warrant in September, and the probable cause portion of the search warrant affidavit has been sealed.

Around the time of his arrest, Krvarić was sought for a firearms restraining order for which it was alleged that he had “threatened violence via social media against LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ individuals.” He was in possession of illegal firearms and had previously possessed explosives.”
Shortly after the arrest, Tony Krvaric, who served as county Republican Party chairman for 14 years, released a statement that read: “Our family is going through a difficult time and we ask that you respect our privacy. As a father, I wish that the children of former public figures could experience life in private, like everyone else.”

Victor Krvaric made headlines two years ago when he was accused of trying to join a white supremacist hate group while serving as a Marine reservist, prompting an investigation by military officials. An investigation found he engaged in unspecified misconduct unrelated to the hate group allegations, KPBS reported, and he was administratively separated from the Marine Corps.
