A third Florida motorcyclist deputy has died from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A South Florida sheriff’s deputy motorcyclist died Monday from injuries suffered last week in a crash that he killed two of his friends– officials said.

Palm Beach County Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, 51, was struck early Thursday morning in a crash that killed Cpl. Luis Paez and Deputy Ralph “Butch” Waller. Deputies were conducting a traffic stop in the Wellington area, west of West Palm Beach.

The three were standing on the side of a busy road, trying to start one of their motorcycles, when the driver of the SUV tried to avoid another vehicle, lost control and hit deputies, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said last week.

All three were taken to the hospital, where Paez (58) and Waller (54) died on Thursday.

The driver’s name has not been released and no charges have been filed against him.

Bradshaw said last week it was unknown whether speed played a factor in the crash, but the driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The investigation is ongoing.
