A passenger of a Rapido cycle taxi died on Sunday evening after the two-wheeler was hit by a Verka truck near Chawla Chowk on Stage 7.

The victim, Parvinder Kaur, 25, was from Fatehabad, Haryana.

According to police, she was going to her hometown on Monday to attend her cousin’s wedding. For this purpose, Kaur, who worked with a private company in Mohali, booked a bike taxi through Rapido.

Driver Gurjit Singh picked her up from Sector 80 to drop her at the interstate bus terminus in Chandigarh’s Sector 17, from where her bus was scheduled to leave at 3.50 am.

However, when the motorcycle reached Chawla Chowk area in Phase 7, a Verka truck coming from Phase 3/5 light point hit the two-wheeler.

Both Kaur and Singh were rushed to Mohali Phase 6 Civil Hospital by onlookers. But Kaur was declared dead. Singh remains undergoing treatment.

The truck driver, identified as Salman Khan from Cholta Khurd in Mohali, was arrested.

He was booked under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (driving any vehicle or public road in such a rash or negligent manner as to endanger human life), 125 (A) (acting so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life). human life or personal safety of other persons), 324 (4) (causing damage and thereby causing loss or damage in the amount of 20,000 and above but less than 1 lakh) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Mataur Police Station.
