The New York Jets hit a new low on Sunday after a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, extending their losing streak to five straight games.

After the game, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked what didn’t go well for the team during that skid.

“Well, we don’t play complementary football,” Rodgers said. “We haven’t really put it together since the last time we won a game where all three phases were going really well. Same thing today.”

Rodgers added that he believes the Jets are in a “dark” period and shared how the team can get out of this precarious situation.

Ironically, the Jets’ last win was their Week 3 opener against the Patriots. After New York’s dominant 24-3 victory, everything seemed to be heading in the right direction, but everything quickly fell apart.

Rodgers threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns, completing 17 of 28 passes against the Patriots. The oft-criticized Jets offense showed moments in Sunday’s game where it could have shown competence, but the team fell short in other areas.

New York kicker Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point in the first quarter and a field goal in the fourth, costing the team four key points and resulting in a three-point loss. Zuerlein has missed six field goals this season, four of which resulted in a loss of three points or less.

The Jets defense, which was supposed to be one of the best in the league at the beginning of the year, turned out to be completely different and its struggles continued on Sunday. New York allowed New England to convert key third downs and cost themselves penalties. The Patriots gained 111 yards on the ground, marking the fourth time the Jets have allowed their opponents to gain over 100 rushing yards in their last five losses.

The situation will not be easier for New York (2:6), because today it will host the AFC South leader Houston Texans (6:2). Thursday night football.
