On Monday, November 25, in an interview with PEOPLE, Ryan’s aunt Hannah and former sister-in-law said the family believed he had mental problems.

She added that the family wanted to dispel any rumors that he had anything to do with their daughter’s disappearance and did not believe he was lured to his death.

In GoFundMe founded for Li, Ryan’s fiancée, niece Emi Ko wrote: “Since Hannah’s disappearance, she has been living her absolute worst nightmare, and now, after his death, our family is dealing with unimaginable grief.”

Pidgeon previously told PEOPLE that Hannah, 30, left Maui on November 8 and was scheduled to take a connecting flight to New York at LAX, but missed it due to a short layover.

She said Hannah contacted another aunt, Geordan Montalvo, and told her she had missed her flight and was trying to rebook.

The family stated that they confirmed sightings of Hannah at the airport the next day, but began receiving them regarding news from her on November 11.

As Pidgeon told PEOPLE, Hannah’s last pinned location was at LAX around 4 p.m. local time on November 11. On that day, the family received approx he confirmed that he had seen Hannah and an unidentified person boarding the train but has not been seen since reportedly leaving for Pico Station.

Following Ryan’s death, Pidgeon told PEOPLE the family will continue to search for Hannah. “We are still here,” she said. “We are a family coping as best we can despite two tragedies.”
