Man from Virudhunagar, son murders youth in Coimbatore in connection with daughter’s suicide

A man and his son hailing from Rajapalayam area in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district allegedly murdered a youth in Coimbatore on Monday (November 25, 2024), accusing him of being the reason for the suicide of the former’s daughter.

The police reported that O. Malaikani (47) and his son M. Rajaram (25), hailing from Ayyankollankondan village near Rajapalayam, allegedly murdered M. Tamilselvan, 27, of Pandalur in Nilgiris district.

Tamilselvan, who worked as a driver at a private hospital in Thudiyalur, met Malaikani’s daughter Anadavalli, 27, during his visits to his mother’s residence in Ayyankollankondan.

They were allegedly in a relationship and three years ago, Anadavalli asked Tamilselvan to marry him. According to the police, the young man refused, claiming that he was in another relationship.

According to reports, Anandavalli was depressed and committed suicide two months ago. Malaikani and Rajaram believe that Anandavalli took such an extreme step for the sake of Tamilselvan, police said.

The father-son duo arrived in Coimbatore on a two-wheeler on Monday morning and waited outside the hospital where Tamilselvan worked. As he was leaving the hospital around 10 a.m., the two men followed him and stabbed him. The young man suffered numerous stab wounds and died on the spot.

Though the alleged attackers managed to escape from the spot, they were caught while checking vehicles at Kundadam in Tiruppur district. They were handed over to Thudiyalur police and further investigation is on.
