Police in Semarang shot dead a student allegedly involved in a gang fight – Archipelago

A police officer in Semarang, Central Java, reportedly shot and killed a student of Semarang State Vocational School (SMKN) 4, allegedly for his involvement in a fight that took place early Sunday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment but died due to the severity of his injuries.

Semarang City Police Chief Senior Comm Irwan Anwar said the victim, identified as 16-year-old GRO, was allegedly a member of a gang involved in a fight with another gang.

The fight broke out outside the Paramount housing complex in West Semarang early Sunday morning around 1 a.m.

A Semarang Municipal Police officer who was returning home from duty on a motorcycle passed by the scene and encountered a gang fight.

The officer tried to break up the fight but was attacked instead.

“When an officer passed by and saw the fight, he tried to intervene. However, he was attacked, which prompted him to take decisive action,” Irwan said on Monday evening at the Semarang City Police Headquarters, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
