A man has died following an attack in Finglas

A man died in Dublin on Tuesday morning as a result of an attack in Finglas, Dublin.

BBC News NI understands that gardaí are treating the incident as a murder.

Shortly before 00:30 GMT, police and emergency services received reports of an assault outside a house on Dunsink Green.

A 60-year-old man was treated at the scene and later pronounced dead at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

On Tuesday morning, officers arrived at the scene to conduct forensic tests.

In a statement, gardaí said the coroner had been notified and the Garda Technical Office and the Office of the State Pathologist had been asked to assist with the investigation.

The statement added that an autopsy would be performed.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has video footage of the area to contact them.
