Barry Island: Two boys arrested after 12-year-old girl injured in ‘serious assault’ | UK news

Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 12-year-old girl.

South Wales Police were called to Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan at around 5pm on Sunday to reports of an assault near the Harbor Road car park in the seaside resort.

The girl, whose condition is described as not life-threatening, was transported to the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff with serious injuries.

Police say they have arrested two local boys, aged 13 and 15, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and both remain in custody.

The younger of them was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an article containing a blade.

Detective Inspector Phil Marchant, of South Wales Police, said the incident and the “age of those involved” would “cause concern in the community”.

He said both suspects were “known to the victim” and were arrested within an hour.

“At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the robbery,” he added.
